Irish Studies
My master's thesis, “A Challenge to Tradition: Examining the Role of Costume in Contemporary Irish Dance,” completed at Trinity College Dublin, documented the unique ways in which elaborate Irish dancing costumes express concepts of individual, rather than collective identity.
More recently, I've continued to explore the history of dance costume during the revolutionary period. My article entitled, “Revolutionary Threads: The Mediation of Gender and Political Identity in Women’s Irish Dance Costume, 1917–1937” was published in Gender & History in 2019.
This interdisciplinary work draws upon a range of fields, which include Irish cultural history, material culture history, art history, gender & sexuality studies, and performance theory.
